01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the charming village of Pettorano Sul Gizio in the Province of L'Aquila, La Locanda is a true culinary treasure that transports diners to the heart of authentic Italian tradition. This rustic restaurant beautifully embodies the spirit of the Abruzzo region, where simplicity meets superior quality, and every dish tells a story of heritage and passion.

The cuisine at La Locanda embraces the rich flavors of local ingredients, lovingly prepared to highlight their natural essence. From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed into a warm, home-like atmosphere, one that feels more like dining at a beloved family’s table than a conventional eatery. The menu carefully curates traditional specialties that invite indulgence: succulent arrosticini, those iconic Abruzzo lamb skewers, grilled to perfection—tender, smoky, and bursting with flavor—are a standout delight passionately praised by many visitors. The pizza here deserves equal accolades, featuring a delightful combination of a perfectly blistered crust and fresh, savory toppings that satisfy both casual pizza lovers and connoisseurs alike.

The pastas are another highlight, deeply rooted in regional tradition. Every forkful carries the essence of genuine craftsmanship, revealing countless hours of skill, patience, and joyful cooking. These plates are generous, hearty, and utterly comforting, a perfect reflection of the Italian ethos of celebrating food and togetherness.

Dining at La Locanda is enhanced by the friendly and attentive service. Guests consistently share how the owner and staff make them feel more like cherished guests than customers—cordial, accommodating, and eager to ensure your meal is nothing short of exceptional. It’s this sincere hospitality that deepens the dining experience, making each visit uniquely memorable.

Prices are refreshingly reasonable without ever compromising quality. As Chiara Sarracino noted, a full, lavish lunch including water and wine came to about 24 euros per person—a true bargain for such exquisite taste and abundance. Federico Quagliuolo beautifully captured the essence of La Locanda, describing it less as a restaurant and more as a welcoming home where the offering is deliberately curated and elevated, reflecting a genuine sense of place. This is a locale that doesn’t chase trends or glam, but instead enchants with honesty, generous portions, and heartfelt sincerity—as Luca Renzitti pointed out, it's a nostalgic return to the food values of the 1990s.

For travelers and food lovers seeking an authentic Italian dining experience that combines bold regional flavors with an intimate, down-to-earth setting, La Locanda is an absolute must-visit. Whether savoring the melt-in-your-mouth arrosticini, delicious homemade pasta, or simply soaking in the genuine warmth of its hospitality, you’ll leave with your heart and palate completely satisfied, craving a return to this hidden gem in the hills of Abruzzo.

Wow, this restaurant is a hidden gem. Difficult to reach but when you get there you'll find the Gods of taste. We were here for dinner yesterday and we tried one of the best "arrosticini" I've ever tasted. Amazing was the pizza too. Try also their pastas, typical from this region. You will love it. Great service and wonderful owner. Highly recommended.

Servizio cordiale e disponibile ANDATECI
